What researchers have learned about sleep herbal passion flower.
Passion like most flowers, most prescription hypnotics available today work in some way to enhance the action of GABA in the brain. By enhancing the action of GABA, they have sedative effects in the central nervous system. The study suggests that compounds in this hypnotic grass act on the same cranial nerve receptor as a kind of sleeping pills. Passiflora incarnation flowers, leaves and stems contain chemical compounds called flavanoids, especially chrysin.
A group of hypnotics called benzodiazepines is also known to act on the cerebral nerve cell receptor site called GABA (A) receptor. GABA is a neurotransmitter in the brain that suppresses (suppresses or slows down) brain activity. Researchers reported that "anxiolytics [anti-anxiety] The effect of chrysin may be related to the activation of GABA (A) receptor unit. "1 Sedation medicines and medicinal herbs like Passion Flower will help relieve anxiety and promote sleep.
Passion flower has a long history in North America and Europe.
In a study conducted in the UK in 1986, passion flower turned out to be the most common herbal sedative being used. This is based on the number of times included in herb prescription.2 Sleeping pills are often combined with other herbs as part of sleep therapy and relief of anxiety.
This is traditionally used in South America and has been found naturally. When the Spanish explorer discovered it in the 1700's, the flowers reminded them of the passion of Christ. Currently it is widely used in Europe. The German committee E recommends sleeping pills to treat nervous constancy and fatigue in the assessment of the herbal medicine that the government is obligated.
A part of the research result on passion flower shows the effect as natural sleep aid.
Study # 1: Breeding rats sleep better in Passion Flower.
In this study, rats were improved (my words) using either amphetamine or barbiturate injections. They were given Passion Flower (PF) or kava kava extract, or a combination of the two. In all cases, herbs relieved rat "hyperkinesis" (excessive movement) and increased sleep 3.
Study # 2: PF extracts do not interfere with memory and learning.
This experiment with mice compared the effects of PF extract and diazepam (Valium) to mouse learning. Diazepam is a benzodiazepine drug used as an anxiolytic. One of the side effects of diazepam is that it may interfere with learning and memory. Like the diazepam, PF extract did not interfere with learning and memory 4.
Study # 3: Passion flowers have been shown to be effective in the treatment of general anxiety disorders.
These researchers compared PF with the drug oxazepam. Oxazepam is a benzodiazepine widely used since the 1960's for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia.5 Many benzodiazepines are used to treat insomnia.
Scientists have discovered that passiflora extract is an effective drug for the management of generalized anxiety disorder. However, scientists preferred flowers of passion, saying that it is advantageous that the incidence of work performance impairment is lower compared to Okazepam of passiflora extract. 6
